EARTHENWARE MADE FOR ORANGISTS
C. 1750-1800, porcelain, Huis Van Gijn collection
The stadholders William IV and William V were the centre of attention in the eighteenth century. Orangists ordered this Orange merchandise to show their loyalty. Cups, saucers and teapots depicted the stadholder and his wife Wilhelmina of Prussia. Others showed the orange tree or texts such as Oranje boven (Up with the House of Orange).
