Music was a way of release for many Indo-Dutch youngsters. Friends gathered in bedrooms and taught themselves to play music, sometimes on homemade guitars. A new genre originated: Indorock, rooted in Hawaiian and Kroncong music and influenced by rock ‘n’ roll and country music.
In Dordrecht, dozens of Indorock bands arose, e.g. Tony & his Magic Rhythms. In places of entertainment, such as Americain in Dordrecht, Indo-Dutch and Dutch youngsters danced together to the new beat.
